Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler crafted one of the best physiques the sport has seen, winning a total of four Mr. Olympia titles. In a recent YouTube shorts video, Cutler explained why T-bar rows are the best compound movement for building up middle back thickness.

During the mid-2000s, Cutler’s name was synonymous with bodybuilding. In 2006, he fought fire with fire after dethroning the eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. In addition to four Mr. Olympia titles, Cutler managed to win the Arnold Classic on three occasions.

Looking back on his storied career, Cutler has been honest about the measures he took to push Coleman. Whether it was consuming 140 egg whites per day or training at odd hours of the night, Cutler had to go ‘to a dark place’ to keep up with Coleman.

In retirement, Cutler remains an ambassador of the sport. At 49 years old, fans wondered if Jay would ever consider a comeback. However, he reiterated that he had no plans of stepping on a competition stage anytime soon. Despite his recent decision, Cutler intends on staying in shape. He announced that he was transforming his body as part of a ‘fit for 50’ challenge.

Preparing his physique once again, Cutler stressed that he won’t be using Trenbolone and will stick strictly with testosterone replacement therapy. During a previous Cutler Cast podcast, Cutler revealed that he was using ‘200 milligrams of TRT a week.’

In his latest endeavor, Jay Cutler explained why T-bar rows are an ideal movement for growing the back. He also discussed the importance of handles and body positioning.

Cutler said he preferred to use closer handles when training t-bar rows. In addition, he shared that body positioning is an important part of this movement for improving the middle back.

“T-bar rows, what is the best handle? Now, I always preferred a closer handle when I was doing T-bars. The main thing is is the body position okay. You’ll see that this is at an incline. So, ideally, I like to stand a little bit more upright, very rarely do I stand at 90 degrees.

Closer grip, now with the T-bar movement, we are trying to work the middle back – so you really try to work the Rhomboids, the mid for the rear double biceps. The front-to-back thickness is what the T-bars are going to work the most,” Jay Cutler said.

When Cutler isn’t offering unsolicited workout advice, he’s inside the gym training. The bodybuilder showcased an impressive chest-focused session recently, where he led fans through an arduous seven-exercise workout. Additionally, Cutler shared his best tips for stimulating muscle growth with optimal cardio and rep ranges.

Earlier this week, the Massachusetts native discussed his physique goals for 2023. He also spoke about steroids in bodybuilding, highlighting that coming on/off gear always ‘worked well’ for him throughout his tenure.

As one of the most popular mass monsters in IFBB Pro League history, fans listen when Cutler talks about building a better back. He recommends that those practicing this movement use proper body positioning and closer handles.
